From early 2017, the BBC iPlayer service will require all users to log in with a personal account. The service already supports this feature, known as BBC ID, however it is not required.
Starting this week, users will have to add a postcode to their account information for validation of location. Earlier this month, use of iPlayer came under the requirement of having a valid TV Licence. The postcode (locatoin) information, while passed to TV Licensing, won’t be used for enforcement says the BBC. They plan to use it for localisation / personalisation of the iPlayer service.
