Children’s television programmes, including Blue Peter and Horrible Histories, will no longer be shown on BBC One from today. Instead, they will be available only on the Cbeebies channel. The Cbeebies strand shown on BBC Two in the mornings will continue until the 4th January.
The decision to end children’s programming on terrestrial channels was agreed by the BBC Trust in March, as part of the digital switchover, citing low viewing figures for BBC One and BBC Two.
The BBC Trust stress that although this change is part of a BBC-wide cost cutting move, investment in children’s programming will remain the same.
