Recently, both Amazon and Netflix have announced they are piloting their own creations of various TV programs. Is this a sign of things to come? Content distributors actually producing shows.
On the surface, this looks like a good thing, however, in practice we, the viewers, might find it more problematic as the distributors enforce their own DRM (Digital Rights Management) in the shows meaning we can only download or watch them if we have a valid subscription with the content provider.
It certainly shows the way we use and watch TV has definitely changed and how streaming and digital distribution is much more important now. We just have to hope that content providers open up and share their content so we don’t need to have subscriptions to many different platforms.
